Full Exterior Restoration — Siding, Framing, Decks & Windows
The most extensive rot and structural damage Blanchflower Construction has ever encountered — and it was completely invisible from the outside. The homeowner called to replace some windows and some siding. What we found behind the cedar changed everything. Over 100 feet of sill plate replacement, roughly a quarter of the first floor reframed, 15 casement windows replaced, full James Hardie fiber cement siding over 1/2" Zip System sheathing, Azek PVC trim at all windows and corners, and approximately 400 square feet of deck reframing including a radius front porch and a 4-foot cantilevered stair set — all flashed with copper ledger cap. The project was completed in phases to accommodate the homeowner's schedule and budget. The before photos show a home that looks perfectly maintained. That is exactly the point.
Insurance Repair — Tree Fall Damage, Spec Pond
An insurance repair job on a lakefront home on Spec Pond in Lancaster, MA after a massive pine tree fell on the house during a spring storm. The before photos capture the full extent of the impact damage: the trunk across the driveway, branches draped over the roof in the rain, a completely blown-out eave with rafters exposed, the timber frame post and knee brace snapped at the exterior, and interior shots showing the structural devastation. The tear-off revealed decades of deferred maintenance on top of the storm damage — completely rotted ridge boards with large bore holes from insect damage, failed lead chimney flashing torn away from the stone chimney, crumbling mortar at the chimney base, and framing so deteriorated it crumbled by hand. Blanchflower handled the full scope from structural framing to a complete interior rebuild including new cabinets, countertops, flooring, and finishes. The tree brought the roof down, but what was underneath told the real story.

A complete exterior transformation on a ranch home in Lancaster, MA. The before photos show the full scope: original wood clapboard siding weathered and faded throughout all four elevations, an aging roof with a failing skylight and deteriorated flashing at the brick chimney, and mismatched materials at the addition junction with failing trim. New James Hardie fiber cement siding, a full GAF roof replacement, and all new Azek cellular PVC trim throughout.
Full Roof Replacement — Ranch Home
A full roof replacement on a large ranch home in Lancaster, MA. The tear-off revealed two layers of existing shingles — a sure sign the roof had been patched over rather than properly replaced. The before photos tell the full story: severely cracked and crazed shingles throughout, heavy lichen and algae growth across every plane, completely blown-out decking at the eave with daylight visible through the sheathing, and failing step flashing at a large brick chimney with vines growing into the mortar joints. Blanchflower performed a full two-layer tear-off, replaced all damaged decking with new CDX plywood, installed a new Velux skylight, all new Azek trim, and a complete GAF roofing system. The lower wall was also re-sided with cedar shingles.
Apartment Complex — 3 Exit Door Roof Replacements
Commercial roofing and carpentry work on a brick apartment complex in Woburn, MA — full tear-down, reframe, trim, and re-roof of three exit door canopies. The before photos show the full scope: failing shingles, rotted wood posts, deteriorated fascia and trim, and failing step flashing at the brick walls. All three canopies were rebuilt from the ground up with new framing, Azek PVC trim, and GAF roofing.
Home & Farm — Full Roof Replacement
Full roof replacement on a sprawling New England home and farm property — multiple roof planes, a large stone chimney, and a classic red barn. Blanchflower handled it all: new EPDM rubber roofing on the flat section, GAF Timberline HDZ on the pitched roof, CertainTeed Monogram siding throughout, a new front door with a new roof over the entry, all-new Azek PVC trim, 2 new windows, extensive rot repair, new white seamless gutters, new masonry paint on the foundation, and new railings on the rear.

Full roof replacement on a large colonial home with multiple dormers, intersecting roof planes, and a three-car garage. Historic Gambrel — Roofing & Cedar Siding
Full roof replacement and cedar clapboard siding restoration on a classic New England Gambrel-style home. This project required careful attention to the roof-to-wall junctions throughout — wherever the roof meets the siding, we removed the existing cedar clapboards to install new aluminum step flashing and ice and water shield along every roof/wall junction before reinstalling the cedar. This is the right way to do it, and the only way we do it.
Full Exterior Renovation & Carport Rebuild
A complete exterior transformation on a home in Leominster, MA — combining a full roof replacement, new CertainTeed Monogram siding, a comprehensive Azek trim package, and a full demolition and reconstruction of the existing carport and deck. The original carport had deteriorated over decades of water infiltration, with a structurally compromised pressure treated deck above and lolly columns reinforcing the center bay — limiting headroom and usable space. The home was previously clad in faded aluminum lap siding throughout, with failing white pine trim at every opening. The entire exterior was stripped and re-sided with CertainTeed Monogram vinyl siding in Ocean Blue, paired with white Azek cellular PVC trim at all windows, doors, corners, soffit, and fascia, and finished with black shutters for a sharp, classic New England look. The roof was replaced with GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Charcoal with white drip edge. The old deck and carport were demolished and rebuilt as a modern clear-span structure — eliminating the lolly columns entirely to deliver higher ceilings and an open, unobstructed bay with ample room for a vehicle and storage. The ceiling was finished with Azek Dry Space with an integrated interior gutter system, keeping the space dry year-round regardless of weather.
National Historic Home — Full Exterior Renovation

Custom Deck Build
A full deck replacement and expansion on a Leominster, MA home — tearing out an aging pressure treated structure and rebuilding it to a significantly larger footprint. The new deck spans 16' x 50' and is framed with 2x12 pressure treated joists at 12" on center, engineered for long-term stability and load capacity. Decking is Azek Vintage Collection in Coastline Grey — a low-maintenance, high-performance composite that holds its color and resists moisture, mold, and insects. All trim is Azek cellular PVC, including a full vertical PVC skirt that conceals the framing from grade. The pressure treated frame was painted black to eliminate any visible framing through the skirt gaps, giving the finished deck a clean, intentional look from every angle. Railings are TimberTech Radiance — a premium aluminum and composite system that pairs cleanly with the Azek decking. A 16-foot stair set connects the upper deck to the lower deck, and an 8-foot stair set connects the lower deck to the backyard.
GAF Cedar Falls Roofing, EPDM & 6 Skylights
A full roof replacement on a craftsman-style home in Weston, MA — one of the more complex roofing scopes we take on, completed in a single day. The existing asphalt shingles were well past their service life, covered in moss and algae across all slopes, with debris-packed gutters and failing flashing throughout. The low-slope section had a separate EPDM rubber roof with seams lifting and separating at multiple points. Six skylights were replaced as part of the scope, and new lead counter flashing was installed at the brick chimney. GAF Cedar Falls shingles were selected to complement the home's taupe cedar shingle siding and craftsman character.
CertainTeed Monogram Siding & Full Exterior Trim Replacement
A full exterior re-siding on a Gambrel-style home in Leominster, MA — replacing the existing vinyl siding with CertainTeed Monogram in Ocean Blue and executing a complete Azek trim package across all elevations. Prior to siding, deteriorated window sills were replaced and minor reframing was completed where needed to ensure a solid substrate. The home features multiple dormers, an elevated rear deck on pressure treated posts, and two entry door canopies that received new small roofs as part of the scope. All window and door openings were trimmed with new Azek cellular PVC, and the soffit and fascia were replaced throughout. The result is a clean, low-maintenance exterior with sharp trim lines and a fresh coastal color that complements the home's classic Gambrel roofline.
CertainTeed Monogram Siding, Dormer Addition & Full Roof Replacement
A full exterior transformation on a classic New England farmhouse in Leominster, MA — combining a complete roof replacement, a newly framed dormer with a new window, full CertainTeed Monogram vinyl siding, and a comprehensive Azek trim package. The existing roof was stripped to the deck and re-sheathed with new 1/2" plywood across the entire surface before new shingles were installed. The low-slope rear porch roof received a new EPDM rubber roof. The dormer was framed from scratch and finished with a new window, integrating cleanly into the roofline. CertainTeed Monogram siding was installed across all elevations, and all corners, window trim, soffit, and fascia were replaced with Azek cellular PVC — delivering a low-maintenance, long-lasting exterior system from the foundation to the ridge.
James Hardie Siding & Exterior Renovation
A comprehensive exterior renovation on a large multi-family Victorian in Newton, MA — replacing failing vinyl siding with a full James Hardie fiber cement system, reframing two structural elements, and executing a complete Azek trim package across every elevation. The existing vinyl siding had reached the end of its service life, and both the second-floor rear egress and the second-floor front porch required full structural reframes before siding could begin. James Hardie fiber cement clapboards were installed on the main body of the house, with Hardie shingles on the front gable to complement the home's Victorian roofline. Azek cellular PVC crown molding was installed in the gables, and every window and door opening received fully mitered Azek trim — eliminating exposed end grain and ensuring a watertight, long-lasting finish at each penetration. The trim package extended to the skirt board, water table, frieze boards, soffit, and fascia, creating a cohesive low-maintenance exterior system from foundation to roofline. James Hardie Weather Barrier was installed across all elevations prior to siding, providing a continuous drainage plane behind the fiber cement.
